What the SWAT era (six stars) adds to the picture beyond the people and the cars:

ballistic shields: a dark slab with a pale visor strip held in front of each officer who carries one (@foi/sim's shields.ts, the snapshot's shield), facing where the officer aims;
the sonic cannon's tell (sonic.ts): while a SWAT van's cannon hums (the snapshot's humming), a mint ring pulses on its roof and a faint wedge on the ground shows its cone, 20 m long and 30° wide, where it points; when it goes (a sonic event) the wedge flashes and fades.

Every shield and ring is an instance of a mesh made once; a frame allocates nothing past the instances it needs more of.
