A piece that does not rest on what is under it, measured at its foot (its lowest point) over its core's middle and corners: floating when everything under it is more than 12 cm below, sunk when everything is more than 25 cm above (a metre for trees, bushes and rocks). What rests on the water is measured at its origin, its waterline: off the water when that is more than 30 cm from the surface, or there is no water.
