The Babylon.js Editor's project format (version 5.5), written and read without the editor: a scene is a folder assets/<name>.scene/ with one JSON file per mesh (its instances inside it, its geometry in a binary file next to it), per transform node, per light and per camera, plus config.json for the scene settings and the editor's own camera. Parents are referenced by uniqueId in metadata.parentId, the way the editor saves them, so a ported level opens in the editor as if it had been saved there; reading a folder back resolves them and loads every mesh's binary geometry.
